Experienced Attorneys for your Medical Negligence Claim
Nursing home, assisted living, and group home negligence affects thousands of individuals every year, resulting in serious injuries and sometimes death. At LaMarche Safranko Law, our attorneys believe we have a responsibility to ensure that our elderly and medically fragile are being treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
How do I know if my loved one is being abused or if I should contact a lawyer?
New York and federal laws provide a Bill of Rights for residents of nursing and adult homes. Signs of abuse and neglect can include physical injuries such as unusual or recurrent bruises or broken bones; unexplained falls; bedsores; dehydration or malnourishment; or poor hygiene. It’s important to watch for signs of emotional, psychological or even sexual abuse including seclusion or isolation, withdrawal, fear, crying or other unusual behaviors.
How do I know the nursing home my loved one is at is a good one?
Every nursing home, assisted living facility, and group home knows that abuse and neglect is not acceptable, so it’s important to know what steps the facility is taking to protect its residents. Staff must be experienced and sufficiently trained pursuant to policies that exist at the facility. The facility must be sufficiently staffed and the employees, including residential assistants, aides and nurses should not be overworked. There must exist a demonstrated culture of safety and respect for the residents of the facility. It is also important to insure there are open lines of communication among staff, doctors, administration, patients, and patients’ families.
If you suspect any of these signs of abuse or neglect, you should consult with a lawyer who has experience in this complex area of the law. At LaMarche Safranko Law, our attorneys have a comprehensive understanding of nursing home and group home negligence claims and are committed to bringing justice to those who are abused or neglected.
