According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the chances of dying in a car crash in a late model vehicle have fallen over a third in the last three years. According to the Institute, this is owed in huge part to new designs, safety technology, and on-board computers in vehicles.
While the trend for consumers in recent years has gone towards smaller, more gas-efficient vehicles, it is the mid-size and larger vehicles that are still the safest on the road.
The Institute reported zero fatalities between 2011 and 2014 for the following nine models:
– Audi A4 4WD (sedan)
– Honda Odyssey (minivan)
– Kia Sorento (SUV)
– Lexus RX 350 (SUV)
– Mercedes-Benz GL-Class (SUV)
– Subaru Legacy (sedan)
– Toyota Highlander Hybrid (SUV)
– Toyota Sequoia (SUV)
– Volva XC90 (SUV)
